Chanel Colour of the Year 2003 Contest Finalist Entry
(6/22/03)

This was my entry for the 2003 Chanel "Colour of the Year" Contest. I was one of twenty finalists, but alas, I did not win the grand prize: a trip to New York with lots of press and a tour of Chanel and Seventeen's facilities. I was hoping that I would win that because a) I hadn't been on an adventure that year, and b) I wanted to steal their corporate secrets to further my own company (girls' comic book publishing house... someday it will happen... I must work harder). *devious look* But, hey, when I entered, I was thinking, "Gosh, I would really like some new makeup (the prize for the finalists)." I was really surprised when I got a letter in October telling me that I was a finalist. I had practically forgotten about the contest!
I felt really honored, but a little let down. I feel that Coco Chanel and I had a bit in common. In her day, fashion was ruled by men. In my day, comics are ruled by men. I want to do for comics what she did for clothes. I bet we could have had a picnic together quite happily and never run out of things to talk about. Ach, there I go again! Comparing myself to famous people! I knew my head was getting too big.
This color is my own, and it embodies my dream. If someone did manufacture it, I would buy it! And, not just because I like red! So there it is, folks. 2003's big achievement. Why do I always come in second? I gotta change that. (Does the girl look familiar?)
